Speak out your opinion, precisely but politely

SO, you have a little time to hang out with some friends, perhaps watch a movie together or a football match. Or go shopping together. But no matter what you do, it's common for you to have some different ideas about things: a certain person, say, or how to dress, or about a player.

In that case, there are some useful ways of expressing yourself so you can avoid stepping on other people's toes.

1. Yes, I think you're right. 我觉得你是对的

This is a graceful way of expressing agreement. A similar way: "That certainly sounds correct." Or, very simply: "True."

2. I couldn't agree more.你说得太对了

This is much stronger in tone. Similar expressions include "You're absolutely right", "I agree entirely" and "I quite agree." "I agree with you," is of course milder but also good.

3. I agree with you, up to a point. 在某些方面我同意你的说法(但是……)

This means that you agree somewhat, but have your own ideas, or reservations. Similar expressions include "That's true, but...," "I agree with you in principle, but...," or "That's all well and good, but..."

4. I'm afraid I don't agree.恐怕我不能同意你的说法

Or: "I'm not sure I agree with you." "(I'm afraid) I disagree." "(I'm afraid) I can't agree with what you say." "(I'm afraid) I don't share your opinion."

Note: It's polite to add the "I'm afraid" to soften the tone of disapproval.

5. I don't agree at all. 我完全不赞成你的说法

If you want to make it stronger, you can also say "I totally disagree," or "I couldn't agree less," or "(I'm afraid) that's complete nonsense."

6. That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life. 这是我这辈子听到过的最愚蠢的事情

This will put an end to everything.
